EMDR
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing and has proven highly effective to help people recover from distressing feelings caused by traumatic events that they have experienced.
Initially developed to treat PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), EMDR has been proven to help with anxiety and depression, amongst a range of mental health conditions. Using Bilateral Stimulation (BLS), usually eye movements or tapping, the brain is able to reprocess traumatic memories. Find out more on the EMDR Association website.
I offer EMDR as ‘stand alone’ sessions, but also incorporate it into my other integrative therapeutic approach.
We will initially speak on the phone to discuss what help it is that you are after. If you are happy to proceed, we will arrange an initial meeting in which you will have the opportunity to find out if you think counselling could help you and if so, we will work towards an agreed plan for our therapy.
It is usual to plan for six or twelve sessions, with regular reviews to assess how the therapy is going and we can add or reduce the number at any time. There is no obligation to continue and you may finish therapy at any stage, although it is beneficial to work towards a planned ending. We will enter into a therapy contract so that our arrangements are clear.
Our sessions and their content are strictly confidential. The only times this confidentiality may be broken is if I think you are in danger of seriously harming yourself or others, or are involved in drug trafficking or terrorist activity.
I attend regular supervision to adhere to the BACP’s strict codes of practice. My client work is discussed in these sessions in order to ensure best practice. Again, these sessions and their content is strictly confidential.
Fees
Sessions last for 50 minutes and are held at the same time each week. Sessions are usually held weekly, although fortnightly sessions are also available. I charge £80 per session. This can be paid by cash or by bank transfer in advance of the session.
I also offer the opportunity to work with a set number (usually 6) of longer sessions of 75 minutes. These are charged at £120 each.
Please give at least 48 hours notice if you are unable to attend a session so that the time may be used for another client. If you do not give sufficient notice, the full fee is payable.
Location
I work from private rooms in Woodbridge. There is ample free parking outside and buses 63, 64 and 65 stop nearby. I am a 15 minute walk from Woodbridge train station.
